A new piece of hardware, was launched on Internet Safety Day (12 Feb 2008), “to help parents fight back against the dangers” that face their children on the internet.
The creators of the computer hardware “PICstick” put the parent in complete control of their home pc, allowing them to set “protection levels” that their child / children must follow when they are using the internet.

Due to the increasing numbers on children spending their free time on the internet, a video game has been realised by the “Council of Europe” which highlights the “online dangers” that face children.
It is hoped that using the video game feature will draw more children’s attention to the dangers that they face.

There has been another case of a man posing as a teenager to lure a young girl to meet him as shown in the following article. The article emphasizes the continuing safety-first attitude that should be followed.
The article also highlights the fact that parents are sometimes not as knowledgeable of the current technology as their children “Nowadays there are millions and millions of very young children who are on the Internet. These young children tend to know more about the Internet than their parents.”
To ensure that your children are not communicating with people that they should not be then it is vitally important that parents take responsibility and ensure that this is not possible.
Using software such as NetIDme provide would ensure that your children have a simple way of protecting their identity while being able to prove their age and gender to others that they wish to communicate with.
