There was an anti-bullying event held in Glasgow recently focusing on bullying in schools.
The message being sent by Maureen Watt, Minister for Schools and Skills was “Scotland’s schools are no place for bullying and it must be tackled wherever and whenever it arises.”
At “Respectme’s” annual conference she asked everyone to “take collective responsibility to make sure young people can benefit from the opportunities available to them.”
She also goes on to highlight how the advancements of technology has opened up another window of opportunity for bullies, “The nature of cyberbullying also allows for anonymity on the part of the bully and can take place anywhere, including at home, which makes it even harder to deal with.”

It has been reported recently that there has been “a sharp increase in the number of children being bullied over the internet”.
Due to the increase of calls from concerned parents, the charity Parentline “a national and free charity based in Hertfordshire” launched a campaign to help parents deal with this situation.

Due to the rising number of people using chat rooms and social networking sites, concerns are growing “to the potential dangers” for children from “online bullying”.
To coincide with the “European Safer Internet Day on February 12” schools from England are being “encouraged to take part”

A review by the Government conducted by Dr Tanya Byron (a clinical psychologist and of TV fame – House of Tiny Tearaways). The subject of the study is “into the effects of harmful material on the internet and in video games”.
